Airedale Computer Recycling
This innovative and multi award winning social enterprise is based in Airedale, Castleford, West Yorkshire and was started in December 2001 as a means to retrain long-term unemployed people and return them into the job market.

Recycling and disposal
We provide a much needed I.T. refurbishing, recycling and ethical disposal service to two Local Authorities, all of Yorkshires emergency Services, several NHS, PCT's and many businesses throughout the area to help them to meet their legal and social responsibilities within the framework of the European (Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment) WEEE Directives. Data Security
We also provide data security and data sanitization to the highly regarded American DOD standard on all equipment we take in. Any hard drives not being reused are put through a drivebuster to physically destroy them. Click here to read more....
Zero Landfill
Our aim is to keep 100% of this equipment out of our landfills and make much of it available for reuse in our communities. In doing so, we help to save on natural resources and reduce carbon emmissions. We have recently implemented ZERO LANDFILL policies.and our energetic and innovative approach to the handling of WEEE allows our clients to demonstrate overall re-use & recycling rates for WEEE in excess of 96% Click here to read more...
Training
We use this equipment for vocational retraining of long-term unemployed, disabled or disadvantaged people. We provide volunteers and college students with hands-on practical training towards their IT qualifications. Free Computers
Many refurbished computers are made available free of charge to local charities, social enterprise, voluntary organisations and other good causes especially involving children. Low Cost Computers
Many computers are made available at low cost into the local community, either through our two local retail shops or from our website shop and ebay shop. Many computers go to other traders helping to sustain employment of staff and thereby the local economy. Click here to read more...

BBC News
When the United Nations put a call out for the world to recycle computers to save on landfill and resources, the BBC news team came to us for a reply from the industry. Breakfast News Jules Botfield looked into this. She was at Airedale Computer Recycling in West Yorkshire. Microsoft Registered Refurbisher
Airedale Computer Recycling is one of only a few Microsoft Registered Refurbishing Organisations within West Yorkshire. We are registered with Microsoft under their refurbisher programme to supply Microsoft Windows licenses on low cost computers to Eligible Charitable Organisations, Eligible Academic Users, and other Specially Approved Recipients. And if all that wasn't enough, all our profits go to the registered charity Chrysalis Youth & Community Project to help them achieve their aims of providing an alternative education system for dissafected or excluded young people.
